The situation with my second essay for the NYT Magazine is a little weird
Critical Party Studies in print.
It’s about the magic of concerts on film and on social media, and how they compel us to return to live music despite our pandemic-related hesitancy. When I was pitching it, I mentioned that one of the clips I might write about was Travis Scott’s show at Rolling Loud. The essay was finalized and sent to the printer before Travis’s Astroworld Fest last week, where 8 people were killed. I ended up only referring to Rolling Loud in passing, and not mentioning Travis at all, but the illustration includes him. For sensitivity reasons, the online version hasn’t been published, but it may or may not go up in some form at some point. Anyway, if you feel so inclined, go on a scavenger hunt and find a print issue, and send me a pic if you do!
